DAY 4

What feedback did you get from this morning’s crit? What was your response to the feedback? How is it informing your next steps?

One significant piece of critique I received from Sophie was that my narrative felt underdeveloped and unfocused; that I was trying to communicate too many things which made my points less effective.

It's not that I necessarily disagree with this point but I think part of the reason my concept felt ineffective was because I wasn't able to communicate it verbally. Advice she had given that I valued was that I should focus on developing my subject matter and narrative through writing to create a more succinct proposal. I plan to develop everything in writing within the week in order to achieve clearer communication of my ideas as well flesh out my own understanding of where I can take the concept further. Regarding the feedback I received from my peers the general response was quite positive - the concept was interesting and my photographic tests from walk 2 were successful in supporting the storytelling aspect. However I wasn't given practical ways of of developing my technique. There was one piece of peer feedback that I received in particular though was quite useful. "maybe you could work with overlay and texture as a covert way of incorporating imagery"

Which of the two approaches you explored today would you like to extend into the rest of this week?

Following the task of identifying elements within the local area of archway I've chosen to explore areas of graphic design and photo manipulation with the collected found objects as the main subject matter - the outcome being 3 potential poster designs

Moving forward I would like to extend my visual narrative by exploring other digital methods such as 3d and collaging.

What do you need to do to further develop your ideas (research, testing)? And what do you need to do to prepare for tomorrow (materials, planning)

Looking at the bigger picture, though I have gathered a variety of artists and theories to inform my work for this project I still lack vision; I believe this is due to my prior lack of understanding and interest in the field of photography. Going forward I know I need to implement ways of passive info consumption about photography so that I can work with confidence and focus my energy into aspects of fashion communication that do come to me naturally.
